About Portland Peace Team

Building a More Peaceful Portland Through Nonviolence

The Portland Peace Team is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2012 and dedicated to helping create a more peaceful Portland, Oregon.

We work alongside people, organizations, and communities throughout the Portland metropolitan area to restore a culture of nonviolence, reject hatred, and support activism for justice.

Through conflict de-escalation training, Peace Presence services, and community education, we help people develop practical skills for responding to conflict safely and peacefully.

Who We Are

People Committed to Peace and Nonviolence

The Portland Peace Team is made up of dedicated volunteers, trainers, and community members who believe that conflict does not have to lead to violence.

Our team provides practical support and education focused on de-escalation, nonviolent conflict transformation, and creating safer spaces for everyone.

We regularly provide Conflict De-escalation Training throughout the Portland metropolitan area, generally offering at least one training each month.

We also provide Peace Presence services at no cost to local groups that agree to follow our protocols of nonviolence.

Who We Work With

Supporting Communities Across Portland

The Portland Peace Team works with local groups, organizations, agencies, and community members who are committed to creating safer and more peaceful spaces.

Our Peace Presence volunteers can provide de-escalation support for qualifying local events and activities, while our training programs help individuals and organizations build their own conflict-response skills.

We have worked with and supported a variety of community organizations and groups throughout the Portland area.

Our History

From Shanti Sena to Portland Peace Team

The Portland Peace Team was founded in 2012 as part of the Shanti Sena Peace Teams Network, continuing a tradition of community-based nonviolent action and peacekeeping.

Since our founding, we have focused on helping people respond to conflict without violence and on building practical skills that can be used in real-world situations.

Our work has grown to include Conflict De-escalation Training, Peace Presence services, volunteer opportunities, and educational resources for the wider community.
